DISH TV is the Perfect Match for Stephens City

Stephens City, Virginia, may be a tiny town—recent population counts put it at under 2,000 souls—but it played a significant role in history. And DISH subscribers have access to a steady stream of programming centered on the drama of this area's war-torn history.

From its beginnings in the 1730s, Stephens City rotated through several names—first Stephensburg, then Newtown—and even more wars: the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. The vast majority of the area's young men signed up as part of the Confederate forces when the war broke out in 1861. But the town spent the war split in two, under Union control yet siding primarily with the Confederates.

Today the Newtown-Stephensburg Historic District covers sixty-five acres in the center of town, and locals know all the stories visitors can hear as they tour the area. You can also get a taste of the Shenandoah Valley's bounty of fruits and vegetables at roadside stands or at Rinker Orchards. The latter started its "pick your own apples" business in 1972, and you can find pumpkins and apple cider in addition to everything from Red Delicious to Winesap apples going back three generations.

Now that's some tasty history indeed.
