To take advantage of high definition television (HDTV) programming, customers must have either a model 6000 receiver or a model 5000 receiver with an HD adapter with an HDTV decoder. The HDTV decoder is either built in the HDTV set or is an external set-top box. These television decoders will not be available through DISH Network but will be sold by the television manufacturer or consumer electronics retailer.
