See who snagged the Galentine’s Challenge: Flicks, Friends, and $2,000 gig here!
“What’s Galentine’s Day? It’s only the best day of the year.” -Leslie Knope -Also us.
At USDish, we love two things: girl power movies and Galentine’s Day (you know, the pre-Valentine’s Day celebration on February 13th all about showing your gal pals some love). Sure, girl power movies are cheesy and predictable, and Galentine’s Day is a little cliché and over the top, but a little kitsch never killed anybody.
If your bank account is totally buggin’, we’ve got news for you: in honor of Galentine’s Day, we’ll pay $2,000 to someone willing to watch three friendship-themed movies with their friends via a virtual watch party.
At USDish, we don’t care if you’re tied down, bitterly single, or in that weird talking phase—if you’re down to celebrate ladies and platonic friendships, we want you to apply.
You pick the day, the friends, and the movies. Watch at least three movies from the list below and we’ll shell out $2,000 (whether or not you choose to split the earnings with your friends, well, that’s up to you).
We want you to love throwing parties—we’re talking Ellen DeGeneres annual birthday party-level parties (minus hundreds of people and the whole hanging-under-one-roof aspect of course). That’s it! Easy peasy. Total cakewalk.
To earn $2,000, host a Galentine’s Day streaming party via Google Hangouts or Zoom before March 15th. You’ll need to watch at least three sappy, heartfelt, cheesy-but-you-know-you-love-it movies about friendship, and answer a series of questions about the experience.
Here’s our roundup of campy but lovable movies that—disclaimer—we’re not affiliated with (but that we love so much, we wish we were):
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion
Fried Green Tomatoes
The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
Sex and the City
How to Be Single
After your G-Day bash, you’ll need to post a video on YouTube or Vimeo breaking down how the par-tay went and what your friends thought of the whole shebang. Did the virtual watch party unite everyone?
You already know you’ll snag $2k if you’re chosen for the job, but we won’t stop there.
HERE’S WHAT ELSE YOU’LL SCORE:
Mosaic self-portrait made from the crushed bottles of your favorite diet soda
Bouquet of hand-crocheted flower pens
Personalized 5,000 word essay explaining why you’re awesome
JUST KIDDING. BUT YOU WILL GET ALL THIS (IN ADDITION TO $2,000!):
Streaming access for each of the three movies
Meal vouchers for you and your friends (e.g., DoorDash or UberEats)
Galentine’s Day swag (you know: candy, popcorn, blankets, heart-shaped everything)
Access to a virtual hangout room
To keep everyone safe, the gig is entirely remote—heck, you can do it in your pajamas if you’d like. Pop some rosé. Pull out the chardonnay. See if we care.
Much to the dismay of FBI Agent extraordinaire Gracie Hart, we don’t run drug tests or background checks on applicants (though we *strongly* discourage mixing alcohol and medicine a la Annie Walker in Bridesmaids).
Our ideal applicant is passionate about celebrating women—even if they aren’t a woman themself. If you’re into this pro-women holiday and you enjoy early 2000s soundtracks and predictable happy endings, we want you to apply.
Now, we love someone who isn’t afraid to do their own thing, but to be the perfect candidate, you’ll need to host the party for at least three other friends. You’ll score brownie points if you’re active on social media and are willing to tweet, post, or vlog your way through the watch party.
NOW FOR THE LOGISTICS:
You must be 18 years or older to apply
You must be a lawful resident of the U.S. to apply
Don’t worry, we won’t judge too harshly. We’ll still consider you for the position even if you’re a virgin who can’t drive.
Scroll below to sign up. We’ll close the application on February 26th at 12 PM MT. (Galentine’s Day is traditionally the day before Valentine’s Day, but we wanted to shake things up and make sure everyone gets a chance to apply.)
To boost your application, include a video submission explaining what Galentine’s Day and friendship mean to you.
If sappy movies about friendship aren’t your jam but you love the idea of a virtual movie marathon, we’ve got good news. We compiled a Virtual Movie Party Watch Guide so you can watch movies safely with your friends no matter the genre.
