Snuggle Time With Our Dish Network HD DVR

18 August, 2009

I love the HD DVR that Dish Network provides. I now work two jobs and my wife works one. We have three kids whom I hardly see. When I get home from my second job, I only have about an hour to soak up the wonderful presence of my children before we put them to bed. Even though I love the time spent with those three little angels, I also look forward to the time I have alone with my wife. The only thing we have energy for after a long day of work is to snuggle up and watch a movie or one of our favorite programs. The only problem is that my favorite shows are all over by 9:30 p.m. If there is anything good on, we've already missed the first hour of it.

We have a TV in our room with a DVR. We have our DVR programmed to record Smallville, American Idol, Lost, and So You Think You Can Dance. Because the programming menu allows us to see everything that will be on TV for the next week, we also scan through the movie channels and record movies that we want to see. Between the movies, and our favorite series, we always have something to watch.

The part we love the most is how easy it is. We never have to worry about missing an episode. We can fast forward through commercials. In fact, I can't stand to watch live TV anymore because I have to watch the commercials when we are watching a program live. The HD DVR can record the HD content, so we don't have to watch anything with a fuzzy or pixilated picture.

In the economy that the US is facing right now, we have contemplated canceling our TV service to free up extra income. However, when we think about the ramifications of not having that time together, or trying to find something else to do together, we have decided that it wasn't just about the money. That 'snuggle' time in front of the TV is more important to us than the money. We don't feel we would have energy to do much else, and without it I think we'd just go to bed earlier. I think that it would cause a rift between us because even though we are watching TV, we also chat back and forth about our day. I get updates on the stuff I'm missing with my kids and I tell my wife about work. It's time I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice no matter what the cost.

I truly do love our DVR. It's funny, that even though it’s fairly new technology, I can't picture our lives without it.
