Snakes Say No To Alcohol

28 September, 2009

While viewing one of the shows on the Dish Network channel, Animal Planet, this weekend, I happened across a program I’d never seen before. Called ‘Untamed and Uncut’ it included assorted stories of unfortunate tales of animal/human mishaps.

One of the clips featured a huge Burmese python and its babysitter. While in the act of feeding a rabbit to the snake, the handler was bitten (yes, by the snake). With its long, curved teeth, the snake had a horrific grip on the lad’s hand and began coiling its way up his arm.

At the end of the program (long story short; the boy and the snake both survived) I learned that you can get a snake to release its bite by pouring an ounce or so of rubbing alcohol into its mouth. Apparently snakes will be inclined to release immediately. Not something most of us need to think about on a daily basis, but you can bet that’s some pretty darn valuable information if you ever have python teeth imbedded somewhere in your body.

There are some pretty fascinating facts to be learned by watching educational programming on so many of the informative Dish Network channels!
