Early Oscar Prospects Emerge At Cannes Film Festival
For most, Cannes Film Festival is wrapped in mystique. It's filled with films from around the world, made by directors that may not be household names. Let's take a look at some films that are generating early Oscar buzz at Cannes.
Early Best Actress talk is about the role Lesley Manville takes to the next level in Mike Leigh's new film, Another Year. Manville plays a wine-loving, fun-having, man-hunting, aging co-worker in the movie that is getting a lot of early buzz.
Javier Bardem, the Spanish actor who won the Best Actor Oscar for his turn as a psychotic killer in No Country for Old Men is at it again. This time Bardem plays a dying man who is trying to pull his life together in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Biutiful. The film itself is also garner early Oscar talk, which isn't a surprise considering Inarritu's previous films, Babel, Amores Perros, and 21 Grams for which Naomi Watts was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, and Benicio Del Toro for Best Supporting Actor.
