Big Love Puts a Pretty Face on Polygamy | HBO Hit Series Returns Sunday Jan 10

8 January, 2010

HBO's hit series, Big Love, returns to the air waves and its anxiously awaiting fans this coming Sunday, January 10.

The show has recieved copious amounts of attention for its compelling storylines, Oscar-worthy acting (producer Tom Hanks is truly blessed with an incredibly talented cast), courageous coverage of the topic of plural marriage and its ability to put a pretty face on polygamy.

While the program doesn't sugar coat the realities of polygamist sects (last season delved into the matter of child brides and the abuse of under aged girls), it nonetheless makes the idea of plural marriage look far more attractive than most folks in modern day society might have ever imagined.

Hubby Bill (played by veteran actor Bill Paxton) recieved a calling to live the principle after years of monogamous marriage to first wife, Barb (Jean Triplehorn). Enter second wife Nicolette Grant, played brilliantly by Chloe Sevigny, an actress whose talent and range seem limitless. Third wife Marjean was barely legal when she joined the crew as the family babysitter. Actress Ginnifer Goodwin looks more like someone who'd appear in a 'Girls Gone Wild' video than any polygamist wife, but how many common viewers could the show draw in if the spouses looked like they'd just hopped off of an ox cart? (Rhetorical question. Answer; not many).

Though the family's relative financial comfort (each wife and their kids have their own house, adjacent to the other wives) and the sister wives' congenitality (they generally get along better than seems plausible) may be quite a departure from the typcial polygamist reality, the program does a great job of keeping fans enthralled and giving critics something to talk about.

Tune into HBO on DISH Network TV this Sunday night and see what you think. Love it or hate it, you're sure to get a big dose of original entertainment.
