Two new, action-packed high-def PPV sports networks will hit the airwaves with Dish Network TV. TeamHD will offer insight into the big-ticket, previously untelevised NBA games, while GameHD will be dedicated to showing NHL hockey as well as Major League Baseball. No more need to try and get last minute tickets from scalpers or imagine the action while listening to the radio. You’ll feel like you can access courtside seats throughout the season -- at a fraction of the cost!
Linked into Dish Network’s NBA League Pass, TeamHD will let basketball fans enjoy even more of their favorite team’s fast-paced action. The new GameHD channel ties into Dish Network TV’s NHL Center Ice as well as the popular MLB Extra Innings baseball packages.
Television techies will appreciate the fact that the new network’s signals will be compressed along with the existing HD PPV channel, thus taking up the bandwidth of just one HD channel. Dish Network’s existing pay-per-view channel airs boxing and events such as the Ultimate Fighting Championships. With these two great new sports channels, fans will be able to view even more of thier favortie sports with a low PPV cost and easy access options.
This morning on The Today Show, shown on Dish Network TV, guest Valerie Brewer talked about the tragic assault on her young son, Michael. The Deerfield Beach, FL, junior high student was set on fire by five classmates. Why? It was his punishment for not paying up $40 allegedly owed to one of the kids for a video game.
One of the boys reportedly tried to steal a $500 bike that belongs to Michael Brewer’s dad to compensate for the debt. Michael called the police to stop the theft. Thereafter that boy and four of his friends returned, doused a restrained Brewer in alcohol and intentionally set him on fire. Michael jumped quickly into a pool. The water did not put out the flames, but a neighbor ran over with a fire extinguisher and aided in putting out the remaining fire.
The mindset of Michael Brewer's attackers is particularly disturbing in that most showed litte or no remorse. Authorities have stated that a few of the boys were actually laughing when they admitted to their gruesome behavior. Today Michael Brewer, 15, fights for his life in a Miami hospital with burns over almost 70% of his body. It will likely be months before he's able to go home
Where were the parents when this heinous attack was taking place? Where are the values in the attackers’ homes? What on earth in these children’s lives has influenced them to think that a debt of $40 justifies life-altering torture, pain and disfigurement? These boys are vicious, violent and sick, but they are boys.
Obviously something has occurred in their upbringing to bring about such volatile tendencies. Jesus Mendez, the 15 year old who set the fire, is facing charges of attempted second degree murder. Maybe their views are a result of parental influence; maybe they have had little guiding influence at all and are simply victims of neglect? Either way, something more than the children needs to be on trial here.
American Idol is for girls! At least that's the prediction from judge Randy Jackson, as he forecasts how the ladies will take center stage over male contestants in the upcoming 9th season of American Idol. Dish Network really doles out the best entertainment!
In a recent interview for 'People' Jackson, age 53, noted that male contestants had dominated the show during the past two seasons. He thinks the girls will give all the guys a real run for their money this time around. Jackson made the statement at the recent Yahoo! Yodel Studio, a one-day music event and yodeling extravaganza in NYC. My late mom, an expert yodeler, would have loved that!
No doubt there will be a direct correlation between Title 9 (the law that requires schools to let girls participate in all sports and athletic activity) and AI's season 9. It's time again for the girls to win! Not since country songbird Carrie Underwood took the AI crown has there been a female 'Idol' winner.
Pitching for the girl's team (no pun intended) is one entirely dedicated Ellen DeGeneres. The captivating comic is a much anticipated addition to the AI judging panel. While not a music industry expert, she brings more of that common viewpoint that is prevalaent throughout the call-in voting audience. That's something that has definitely been missing from the previously star-studded group in prior years. We're all looking forward to the new season, which is due to start up in January 2010.
Chef Gordon Ramsey and his producers are spicing things up for this season’s ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ finale. Unlike their typical two-person showdown, this evening’s format will start out with three final contestants (Dave, Kevin and Ariel) vying for one grand prize. The winner will move on to the appointment of head chef at Ramsey’s new resort restaurant in British Columbia, Canada.
Amongst the three finalists, Chef Dave gets my vote. You never know who will pull ahead of the pack when the last challenges are thrown at the enterprising cooks, but so far Dave’s done a more than admirable job, despite cooking one-handed (he broke a wrist in one of the early episodes).
The show’s tradition of wrangling in a pack of bitter, previously discarded contestants to ‘help out’ the cream of the crop always poses a bit of a challenge to final two. Tune in at 7 pm tonight on Fox to catch the two-hour Hell’s Kitchen wrap up.
One of the most fun things about satellite TV is the opportunity to celebrity watch. Nothing has contributed to this entertaining pastime quite like reality TV programming. Of course, the Kardashian name comes up often these days in celeb-chat circles.
Favorite shows like .E! Entertainment. and .Entertainment Tonight. frequently feature the famous Kardashian sisters (even if none of us are really sure why any of them are famous). Even though Kim has been dubbed the ‘most famous,’ it’s Khloe Kardashian that I find most interesting. No, it’s not because of her bad temper or her drunken-sailor vocabulary, but rather because of her size (large) and somewhat un-Kardashian appearance.
The old Sesame Street song ‘One of these things doesn’t belong here’ kicks on in my brain when I see the sisters together. There was a rumor that Khloe’s father was a yeti (I find this unlikely), as well as speculation that she’s larger simply because mom shunned cigarettes and martinis during that particular pregnancy, but the true reason for KhloKar’s incongruous physique is not yet confirmed. Maybe the siblings are just diet-obsessed, making Khloe appear unusually large in comparison.
When you want the latest scoop on big celebrity news, Dish Network offers plenty of fun, round-the-clock options.
