Sunstein Nudges Opponents Toward Logic

9 September, 2009

Have you turned on the news today? Check out the Chris Matthews Show or Keith Olbermann or any of the other great news coverage you'll find on Dish satellite programming and you’re sure to hear mention of the name Cass Sunstein.

A notable legal scholar, author, orator and editor, Sunstein has recently become the target of radical slurs, based mainly on his views regarding gun control.

“Nudge”, the book he co-wrote in 2007 with Richard Thaler, offers a thoughtful assortment of ideas for productive libertarian behavior, many of which have caused a bit of a fervor amongst his uber-conservative opponents.

A conscientious, considerate man whose writings indicate nothing more than humane perspectives and suggestions to benefit the betterment of society, it seems odd (at best) that any reasonable person would deem Sunstein as contentious. Apparently there is no nudging some folks into logic.

Fake Blood - Not Just For Halloween

8 September, 2009

I was checking out the HBO True Blood site and noticed that there is a new True Blood beverage for sale. No kidding. It’s orange flavored and comes in the same packaging that you see on the hit series. Personally, I would have opted for cherry flavoring.

No doubt there will be plenty of people in the market for ingestible fake blood (yummy!). Just think, a couple of years ago something like this would have been available (and interesting) only at Halloween. Thanks to True Blood, we now have a year-round fascination with vamps and their favorite beverage. Looks like it will be perfect for parties.

Amusing Tools

8 September, 2009

Lucky for me (and for Dish Network’s VHI channel), cutting back on our budget hasn’t cut down on entertainment. I checked out the show ‘Tool Academy’ for the first time this weekend. Wow…it’s like driving by the relationship equivalent of a train wreck.

This show really is amusing, and reassuring. Any person who is not in a relationship with a complete moron (and that probably encompasses most of us) will be grateful for the highly evolved human being that they’ve chose to partner with. I’m not sure where they dredged up the participants for this show, but their shallow, self-absorbed neurosis and questionable intellect are disturbing (that applies to both the male 'tools' and their ladies). If any of the Tool Academy alumni do manage to keep their relationships intact and, god-forbid, reproduce, the resulting offspring will no doubt garner a reality show of their own. Stay tuned.

Rachel Alexandra Runs Like A Girl!

8 September, 2009

Typically a huge fan of any horse-related sport, I shocked myself by missing immediate coverage on the Saratoga Springs race this past Saturday. Many thanks to ESPN and Dish Network for getting the news to me post-event.

Wonder-filly Rachel Alexandra won her race, beating out the fast-paced field of boys, and becoming the first-ever girl to take the title since the race’s inception some 56 years ago! The incredibly talented 3 year old girl has been making headlines since current owner, Jess Jackson, entered her in the Preakness. Her win at that race, with jockey Calvin Borel, made her the first filly to take the title in over 80 years. Following in the remarkable hoof prints of Ruffian and Personal Ensign, Rachel Alexandra really runs like a girl!

Enthusiasm Returns Sept 20

4 September, 2009

You won't have to curb your enthusiasm for long; the inimitable Larry David and friends return to HBO on September 20.

Fans of the show have let out a sigh of relief, learning that the show would indeed be back on the air for another season. Last year's final episode wrapped up in a way that suggested Larry might have sailed off into the sunset with the Blacks (or driven conscientiously off in a Prius), putting an end to the enthusiastically received program. Thank goodness our suspicions were entirely off base (thank you HBO).

If you've missed out on prior seasons of 'Curb' you're encouraged to tune in. LD (co-creator of Seinfeld) is in top form, as are cohorts Cheryl Hines, Jeff Garlin and Richard Lewis (to name but a few). The cast is continuously top-rate and the situations never fail to entertain. We're looking foward to 9/20!
