Pint Sized Piglets All The Rage In Britain
Currently only for the British, tiny teacup piggies are getting some big attention! Born with an average weight of about half a pound, the adorable little swines grow to only 12 – 16 inches tall with a full grown weight of roughly 65 pounds.
Slightly smaller than even the once popular pot belly pigs, who gained popularity as pets in the early 90’s, teacups are not cheap. Prices start around $1,000 each! Over 70% of those surveyed state that they would most definitely adopt one of these affectionate little critters, given the chance (and the finances).
Gotta love all the fun animal-friendly programming you’ll find on Dish Network and the Animal Planet channel.
Keith Olbermann Sheds Light On Healthcare Reform
With all the great news and political programming on Dish Network, we’re always privy to thought-provoking opinions. Few of these shows are hosted by anyone with such a catalog of interesting insights as Keith Olbermann.
Olbermann’s entire hour last night was devoted to the topic of healthcare. Did you know that the mortality rate for uninsured persons in the U.S. continues to go up, far exceeding the death rate of people who are insured? When ideas are discussed for universal, government-funded healthcare, the matter meets (inexplicably) with debate and ridicule.
It makes no sense. As in all countries that offer government-funded healthcare options, the wealthy would still have access to treatment opportunities that aren’t available to lower income classes. People today are dying because they don’t have medical insurance. This is disgusting.
That goodness that television can provide education as much as it offers entertainment. Hopefully we can all learn something and do what we can to end this American tragedy.
Letterman, The Romantic
Who watched Letterman’s on-air apology last night? The long-time TV personality has been accused of, and admitted to, having inappropriate relationships with staff members. Really? This viewer, for one, finds that hard to believe (and impossible to think about).
Letterman, in case no one else has noticed, is not going to rival Harrison Ford, Pierce Brosnan or probably even the aging Hugh Hefner in Hollywood’s ‘most handsome’ department. So does a certain degree of wealth and celebrity just make absolutely anyone attractive?
Apparently the point of the apology was to express his remorse to his wife. Seems a little impersonal, if you ask me. A televised apology can’t possibly be considered romantic. Is she not speaking with him directly? Hopefully she was amongst the estimated 5 million people who reportedly tuned in.
Entourage Ends Another Hopeful Season
I wish I could take credit for this brilliant observation, but I have to give that to my husband. After watching the current finale of HBO’s hit series, Entourage, he noted how positively they always end their seasons.
So true! Unlike many programs that leave us with dramatic cliff-hangers and mysterious plot twists, Entourage offers viewers something uplifting to look forward to. As the boys wrapped up this season, we find E engaged to the love of his life, Drama gets great news from the Network, Vince heads off to start filming in Italy (not alone, of course; Vince is never alone) and Ari apologizes (no kidding) to Lloyd, who is elevated from slave to agent.
Granted, it is a fun and playful show. We’re just glad they keep up that entertaining tradition and leave viewers with something good to think about until the next season takes off. Gotta love those original HBO series on Dish Network!
Same Channels, New Face
Three of the Dish Network channels have recently undergone facelifts. The channels remain the same, but with new names. “The N,” Nickelodeon’s 24-hour network for and about teens, is now called “TeenNick.” And if you’re looking for “Noggin,” you’ll find “Nick Jr.” instead. Preschool kids love this educational network from Nickelodeon. And parents love the commercial free place for their kids to learn and build their imagination. “Centric,” previously “BET Jazz,” is the place to be if you’re looking for music and entertainment which reflects the styles, artists, and lifestyle programs for today’s trend-setting multicultural adults.
Dish Network is also now simulcasting two channels for no additional charge. “The Pentagon Channel” brings military news and information, including short stories, Department of Defense news briefings, and more. The other channel, “Classic Arts Showcase,” plays contemporary, vintage and rare film clips of the arts 24-hours a day.
