Donny Osmond Dances To the Top | Former Teen Star Won Dancing With the Stars

11 December, 2009

Former teen pop idol, Donny Osmond, danced to the winning spot on season nine of the popular program, 'Dancing with the Stars.'

A member of the famously wholesome Utah singing family, Donny Osmond is no stranger to fame. He performed as a little kid with the Osmond Brothers. Eventually the band of brothers received a little sister and in the 70's Donny and Marie teamed up on their own TV variety show. You can always find a great variety of entertainment and fun reality shows on DISH Network channels!

Utah radio stations have suggested that Donny's recent win on DWTS has stirred up a bit of sibling jealousy from baby sis Marie (she was voted off the program in a previous season).

Donny took the title by beating out some talented competition; Singer Mya and Kelly Osbourne (daughter of famed rocker Ozzy) consistently received high marks from judges and call-in viewing voters.

Being a little bit rock n' roll apparently gave Mr. Osmond that competitive edge. Good job, Donny!

Iron Man Controversy | Contract Dispute Leaves Terrance Howard Out Of Sequel

3 December, 2009

So here’s the deal with Iron Man 2, the much anticipated sequel to the smash hit, Iron Man. Terrance Howard, who played James “Rhodey” Rhodes in the first Iron Man, was the highest paid actor in the first film, and apparently his contract was fairly well written. When the producers of the sequel approached Howard’s representation seeking a scaled back salary for the sequel, they balked. I’m not sure what the new numbers were, but I can’t imagine they were asking Howard to go from hero to zero.

Enter the new “Rhodey” Rhodes for the sequel, the highly skilled Don Cheadle, who I think is a natch for the role. Dude is a skilled action actor who's pretty much perfect for the role. He only had a couple of hours to decide if he wanted the role or not, but I doubt it took him more than a moment to realize what he was being offered. Cheadle’s gain is our gain, so expect another smash hit when Iron Man 2 hits theater in early May.

For all your Hollywood blockbuster new releases, turn to DISH On Demand on DISH Network and catch your favorite new releases uncut, and unedited, just like the directors intended.

Nature Programming | The Nature Of Satellite Television

1 December, 2009

No one will ever try to suggest that television doesn’t have its fair share of programming that offers no real value to our children. However, there's no reason for weary parents to steer clear of everything that TV has to offer.

Programming has changed a great deal since the time when most programming designed for youngsters focused on cartoon superheroes and advertisements for junk food. With the expansion of premium entertainment and educational channels, a number of the different specialty channels are now available on DISH Network and are literally changing the meaning of educational programming.

This shift is most apparent with the myriad nature programs available for children and adults alike, on numerous channels. Once the realm of slow-moving documentaries, with occasional stand-outs like the shows of Shark Week, nature programming has morphed with the times and has become just as colorful and edgy as any other leading-edge programming. Unlike all of those old cartoons, however, a couple of hours spent with these new programs satellite television from DISH Network is more likely to engage young minds, teach new facts, and even captivate a parents in the process.

One of the most popular and engaging series in the past decade, Shark Week was exclusively focused on nature, and the nature of sharks, which spawned any number of different similar programs, re-runs, and special insider looks at the production process. In fact, it remains one of the most popular nature franchises on television, largely because it was all shot in high definition. The program captured the imagination of viewers of all ages because of the incredible and never-before seen images on television. It was literally the most amazing show on regular television.

The best part of all this new nature programming was, well, the programming. These shows actually focus on the story and amazing photography and keep the emphasis off things like catchy electronic music and jump-cut editing designed to rev children up with all things cool with little to no substance. The programming has become very informative, which is the primary reason parents should be guiding their children into nature programming on television.

A number of the different Discovery channel shows not only explain how nature works, but how to handle it in extreme circumstances. You’ll watch extreme-condition experts go head-to-head against Mother Nature in some of the harshest conditions in the world, all the while educating viewers. You never know when something learned on television will serve you well when you’re caught out in the elements seemingly unprepared.

Satellite television isn’t a substitute for reading, classroom instruction, and playing outdoors. However, it can certainly be used a part of a well balanced educational program designed by parents for their children, especially when infused with a healthy dose of nature programming available on DISH Network.

Soccer Star Thierry Henry | If You're Not Cheating You're Not Trying

20 November, 2009

Hey, Mister! Can you give me a hand? Normally, no big deal, right? Giving a helping hand. Well, most of the time that’s exactly what we want to see from our fellow man, but when it comes to soccer, and I’m talking big time soccer, a helping hand is actually against the rules, which is why French soccer star, Thierry Henry, is pretty much the villain today in Ireland.

In extra time after regulation play, Thierry controlled the ball and not once, but twice touched the ball with his hand – the cardinal no-no in soccer – before passing it on for the game-winning goal. So obvious was the major infraction that France’s sports daily, l’Equipe, ran the headline, “Hand of God” on its cover.

There’s never a dull moment in World Cup soccer, which is why you should definitely grab (but not with your hands) a DISH Network promotion today to make sure you have all the best sports coverage from around the world, including World Cup 2010 from South Africa this coming summer! DISH Network channels always bring the best sports coverage into your home. Score the game winning goal by locking in great savings until 2011 with a great DISH Network deal.
