Colorado- based Dish Network has teamed-up with Fandango to simplify the movie ticket buying experience. Subscribers can tune into Dish Network’s Ch. 100 to utilize the new, interactive Fandango application. This service allows customers to purchase movie tickets with the simple touch of a Dish Network remote control.
Powered by OpenTV middleware, the interactive Fandango application can find nearby theater schedules based on the Dish Network customer’s zip code. Customers with a set-top cable box connected to a functioning phone line can purchase tickets to Fandango-supporting theaters with a credit card. This easy-to-use service utilizes a secure connection.
After purchase, Dish Network subscribers can redeem movie tickets by simply presenting the credit card used for the transaction. This serves as proof of purchase. Customers can also find a schedule of movie times for theaters outside of the default zip code.
"Once again, DISH Network is leading the pack in interactivity through our award-winning set-top boxes, and with the addition of applications like Fandango, we are creating new value for our subscribers," stated Michael Kelly, Executive Vice President of Dish Network. "Remote movie ticket purchasing via the set-top box is only the first step. In the future, we envision banner ads for upcoming titles, movie trailers and more for our interactive advertising clients."
"Partnering with Dish Network is a great opportunity for Fandango to extend our ticketing service to a new platform and to continue to provide consumers with even faster and more convenient ways to escape to the movies," stated Ted Hong, Chief Marketing Officer for Fandango.
"We are very excited to be powering DISH Network's set-top box based movie ticket purchasing application for Dish Network and Fandango," stated Tracy Geist, OpenTV's Senior Vice President of Market Development. "This application further demonstrates the robustness of our middleware and the advanced capabilities it can offer in launching innovative and value-added interactive services."

The HISTORY Interactive service will supplement HISTORY’s new TV program, BATTLES BC, which will debut on March 9 at 9:00 p.m.
"DISH Network continues to enhance its iTV platform, and the addition of HISTORY Interactive and BATTLES BC will provide new and engaging experiences for our subscribers," stated Executive Vice President of Dish Network, Michael Kelly. The nation’s second largest satellite-television provider, Dish Network, has agreed to compensate CBS, the most-viewed broadcast network in the country, for broadcasting its network.
According to Dana McClintock, CBS spokesperson, the two companies reached a new carriage agreement for both CBS and Showtime. Dish Network spokesperson, Francie Bauer, has confirmed the contract, but has not commented further on the topic.
Leslie Moonves, CBS Chief Executive Officer, has requested new funding from pay-TV providers to compensate for advertiser’s decreased spending during the recession. The nation’s second largest cable provider, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon’s fiber-optic TV, FiOS have reached similar agreements with CBS during the past few weeks.
During previous months, CBS has experienced an overall decline in stock prices. On Wednesday, stock prices dropped 4.2%. Shares have fallen 36% during 2009, as of Tuesday. CBS, controlled by Sumner Redstone, will report fourth-quarter earnings on Wednesday.
In 2004, when Viacom Inc. operated CBS, Dish Network removed CBS from its satellite services for two days prior to March Madness, men’s college basketball playoffs.
Providing hit shows like “The Mentalist” and “CSI: New York,” CBS is the nation’s most-watched TV network. Since the season began in September, the broadcaster is the only network to have increased its prime-time viewership. According to McClintock, CBS will negotiate retransmission contracts in markets where telephone, cable, and satellite providers utilize a signal from a CBS-owned station.
On January 6, CBS announced a 5-year carriage contract with Time Warner Cable that will compensate the network in markets in which CBS owns local stations. Among the markets are Los Angeles, New York and Dallas. Six days later, Verizon entered into a similar long-term retransmission agreement.
As a Dish Network subscriber, you will have access to exciting CBS Network programs including “Two and a Half Men,” “CSI: Miami” and “Without a Trace.”
