What Happened To Heroes
Spring is in the air and new fall lineups are blooming all over satellite TV. With all the new shows the networks had to cut, cancel and clean house of several programs, some surprisingly, some not so much. The news that NBC had finally axed the once-popular, turned debacle, sci-fi program Heroes falls into the latter camp.
Hearing that Heroes got the hook shouldn't have come as a surprise to its few remaining fans and is actually a relief to one-time fans (who far outnumber the die-hards) giving them a proper opportunity for closure. NBC has given a number of reasons for the decision, such as the high cost of production and picking up several new hour length programs, but they don't mention directly that the narrative had turned into an uncontrollable rollercoaster, with key characters dying, coming back to life and constantly switching sides from good to evil, that started losing fans around every corner.
When Heroes began it was propelled by the same internal questions that has made Lost so compelling, but the unending plot twist, the inconsistency of consequences and the heavy handed 'family drama' only served to obfuscate the shows central themes.
Fans of super hero dramas don't have to worry though because NBC has several new hour long programs coming this fall, most of them aimed at narrative niche genres. Catch all the new series as well on your favorite channels avaialable in a Dish Network tv packages.

Singer/Actress and Legend, Lena Horne Dies At 92
Legendary, enchanting jazz singer/actress and incredible woman, Lena Horne has died at age 92. Lena Horne was true to her words, “I’m me, and I’m like no one else.” She truly was like no one else, breaking the barriers of racism and performing in front of all-white audiences back in the 1930s and 1940s. She never pretended or tried to be like anyone else. She wasn’t ashamed of her heritage or background, and she truly did shine.
Lena Horne is well-known for her signature piece and major hit, “Stormy Weather”. This was an all-black movie musical where she played the role of Selina Rogers back in 1943. She was among only a handful of black performers that had a Hollywood contract back then.
Horne was also a strong voice for civil rights and was among 250,000 others in the March on Washington when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. She also spoke at a rally that same year with civil rights leader, Medgar Evars, who was assassinated just days after.
Lena Horne’s contribution to the entertainment industry as well as her passion for civil rights will always be remembered. Her sultry singing voice will live on forever. Celebrate the life and music of Lena Horne with select DISH Network channels.
