Enthusiasm Returns Sept 20

4 September, 2009

You won't have to curb your enthusiasm for long; the inimitable Larry David and friends return to HBO on September 20.

Fans of the show have let out a sigh of relief, learning that the show would indeed be back on the air for another season. Last year's final episode wrapped up in a way that suggested Larry might have sailed off into the sunset with the Blacks (or driven conscientiously off in a Prius), putting an end to the enthusiastically received program. Thank goodness our suspicions were entirely off base (thank you HBO).

If you've missed out on prior seasons of 'Curb' you're encouraged to tune in. LD (co-creator of Seinfeld) is in top form, as are cohorts Cheryl Hines, Jeff Garlin and Richard Lewis (to name but a few). The cast is continuously top-rate and the situations never fail to entertain. We're looking foward to 9/20!

Clarkson's Fed Up . . . Again

4 September, 2009

American Idol's first season winner, Kelly Clarkson is battling her recording label again. Her song Already Gone has the same backing track as a song by Beyonce. Clarkson claims she demanded it be changed or the song not be released, but the label did it anyway.

Maybe after her last battle, Clarkson’s done playing nice. I believe if she were allowed to go the direction she wants, a little grittier and edgier, she’d shed her pop princess persona and become the musician she’s capable of being. I give her a cyber high five for her guts and hope she gets the chance to shed that label, and that image, for good.

19 Kids And Counting?

4 September, 2009

25 years of marriage and 18 – wait – 18 ½ children later, the Duggar’s seem to be happy. The stars of 18 Kids and Counting announced they are expecting another baby.

How could one woman give birth that many times and still be healthy and sane? Yes, they live debt free and their children are beautiful and healthy. I support couples having the number of children they want, but could there be a point when enough is enough? I guess their amazing propensity at reproducing has given them their own reality show, but for many Americans it may seem more of a freak show then reality.

DIRECTV Drops Versus HD Network, Dish Customers Can Still Tune In

2 September, 2009

It's official. DIRECTV will no longer carry Comcast's Versus HD Network. Their contract with Comcast expired August 31 and the two companies were unable to reach a renewal agreement. Derek Chang, DIRECTV's Executive Vice President of Content Strategy and Development stated the following reasons:

"The deal that just expired was well above market value and beyond what other significant distributors were paying. To add insult to injury Comcast demanded we carry Versus at a 20 percent premium in a new deal…."

The well-publicized split has been far from amicable. Frustrations and disappointments have been expressed from both DIRECTV and Versus sides. And let's not forget, somewhere between the Versus DIRECTV exchanges lies the Versus viewers who are now without their programming and may have a few frustrations of their own.

However, with all the conflict aside, the Versus channel is not completely lost. While it can no longer be viewed on DIRECTV, Versus fans can still catch Versus HD on Dish Network. It's ordinarily found on the Gold 250 Package and above, but right now, Dish Network is offering a free Versus preview on the Bronze 100 and Silver 200 packages from 9/1/09 to 11/30/09.

Move Over Vampire, Here Comes the Werewolf

1 September, 2009

Over the past several years, vampire movies have been hitting the theaters and our TVs at home with fangs galore and garlic-covered crosses; well that is, until Twilight came into the picture. All those rumors of garlic, sunlight, and coffins all proved to be myths according to the vampires in that story.

But now we have the rise of the werewolves. The long-awaited "New Moon", the second movie to the Twilight saga, is about the transformation that takes place in Jacob Black, as he becomes a werewolf.

TV will be presenting a new "Teen Wolf" that is more of a dramatic thriller than the light-hearted comedy with Michael J. Fox back in the 80s. Then there is the remake of "The Wolfman" that is expected to hit theaters next February. Move over pale wanderers of the night, the hairy beasts are in season!
